Since 1867
Zassenhaus began building kitchen machines in Schwelm, Germany in 1867. The hand-cranked bread slicers of the early catalogs — cast iron, beechwood, built for generations — are the direct ancestors of today’s CLASSIC. Different century. Same idea: one honest machine, made to last. Hover a machine to read its story · click to shop
The Victoria No. 3 comes from the earliest Zassenhaus catalogs: a cast iron crank slicer on a wooden base, from a time when every household sliced its own loaf. It set the pattern every Zassenhaus machine since has followed: one job, done right, by hand.
The Nr. 18 C carried the Zassenhaus Schwelm nameplate into kitchens across Germany. Heavy, simple, and repairable, it turned daily bread into even slices for decades. It was the kind of tool that got handed down, not thrown out.
The Nr. 25 shows the design maturing: the same cast iron and wood, refined by years of daily use in working kitchens. Plenty of these machines still crank smoothly today, generations after they were first bought.
Today’s CLASSIC is the direct descendant: one hand-cranked machine in four finishes, built with the same intent as its ancestors. Different century, same idea. See the collection
